MARCH IS FRAUD PREVENTION MONTH
Tools, training available to help protect worried investors
from scam artists

March 6, 2009—In the face of the current economic climate, there is a risk that scam artists will be stepping up their efforts to take advantage of worried Manitoban investors. In response, the Manitoba Securities Commission (MSC) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are joining forces to educate the public about investment fraud and identity theft.

The MSC is making available, free of charge, an information kit on investment fraud and will be holding three fraud-prevention seminars. The MSC and RCMP, in conjunction with the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, will be conducting information seminars that will provide hands-on, real-life examples of how Manitobans can protect themselves from frauds and scams on:

March 18 7:00 PM Fort Gary Mennonite Brethren Church
March 26 7:00 PM LaSalle Community Church
March 31 7:00 PM Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church

To register for one of three fraud information seminars or to request a free fraud information kit go to FactOrFraud.ca or contact The Manitoba Securities Commission at (204) 945-1513.
